PROJECT OVERVIEW
The scope of this project included the installation of drilled piles for support of new structures and utilities associated with the upgrade of Brooklyn’s 26th Ward Wastewater Treatment Plant. Posillico’s contract included installation of over 1,200 drilled displacement piles complete with all required designs and testing.
WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX
The project was complex as it revolved around an active wastewater treatment plant that had to remain fully operational throughout the duration of the project. The objective was to minimize disruption to the working plant as well as work safely in and around active utilities areas. Though Posillico’s portion of the overall project was relatively small, it was critical in that Posillico was involved in all foundation work.
HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT
The original plans called for more robust piles that would likely have caused significant disruptions to the facility. Posillico redesigned the foundation elements to provide an increased benefit of budget and time to the owner, as well as less disruption to the active facility. By using Stelcor piles, Posillico avoided spoils and vibration, and required small equipment for installation, minimizing disruptions.
