Michael Posillico has a variety of experiences in all of the fields that Posillico serves. In 1984, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University in Civil Engineering. After completing his studies, he began working for the family firm in the Estimating Department where he learned the mechanics of the business and implemented the use of computers throughout. After gaining the basics, Michael began to learn the field and became Project Manager on several high profile projects, including Posillico’s first Nighttime Reconstruction of the Long Island Expressway and the reconstruction of the Northern State Parkway and Meadowbrook Parkway Interchange.
In 1991, after completion of the Northern State/Meadowbrook project, Michael pursued retrofitting the Asphalt Plant; tuning the heart of Posillico’s construction business into a combined facility capable of thermally treating and recycling contaminated soils from tank and surface spills that were impacting Long Island landfills. He also launched Blue Water Environmental, Inc., which applied the same approach for solving problems in the construction market to large projects in the environmental field. He oversaw many high profile environmental remediation projects, which required expertise in handling of various hazardous waste streams, process systems, and sensitivity to community and ecological needs. He has continued his focus on the development of large scale sustainable recycling technologies in the waste industry.
By the late 1990’s, Michael’s reputation as a tenacious problem solver began to spread and he was called on to help navigate problems increasing in land use analysis and property transfer. With onerous laws and regulations hampering contaminated property clean-ups and re-use, he saw the opportunity to become a “Brownfield Developer,” leveraging Posillico’s “know-how” in traditional construction and development.
Today, Michael has focused his efforts in “Brownfield” redevelopment, including the Garvies Point project in Glen Cove, New York. This project is one of sixteen National Environmental Protection Agency Showcase projects that will restore over 50 acres of severely contaminated waterfront property into a vibrant, ecologically and economically sustainable community. It will employ the most up-to-date technologies in Green Building and Storm Water design in a Smart Growth community. Another project is Quarea, a large mixed use redevelopment of the former Tilcon quarry in Prospect Park, NJ.
Michael has held various positions in local charitable and community organizations, including President of the Farmingdale College Foundation and Chairman of the Long Island Chapter of the New York League of Conservation Voters. Today, Michael serves on the Advisory Board for Clemson University School of Engineering. He tries to make a positive impact through the Posillico Foundation and serves in community organizations that are making a difference in the markets that Posillico serves.
