PROJECT OVERVIEW

As part of the NYC DDC’s Green Infrastructure Initiative, this project included building a bridge over the Bronx River to expand Starlight Park. The scope also included construction of a retaining wall supported by drilled caissons to allow for pedestrian access, installation of temporary sheeting for SOE, and installation of H pile beams for future bridge abutment.

Posillico was honored to contribute to this project which received the “Envision Gold Award” for sustainable Infrastructure.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

This project was challenging because work had to take place in the river. Posillico constructed a cofferdam to allow for construction of the footing for the pedestrian bridge. Work took place near live Amtrack tracks and existing electrical lines. Construction of a retaining wall took place in private backyards.

HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT

Posillico selected low clearance equipment to drive the sheets while working around the existing power lines. This avoided a shut down and minimized disturbances to the local residents. A crane with hanging hammer was selected to reach tight locations. Floats were used to access the waterwork.
