Summary

The South Battery Park City Resiliency Project is a major coastal resiliency initiative designed to protect Battery Park City and Lower Manhattan from storm surge, coastal flooding, and sea-level rise. The project creates an integrated flood protection system extending from the Museum of Jewish Heritage through Wagner Park, across Pier A Plaza, and along the northern border of the Historic Battery.

Scope Of Work

  • Construction of an integrated coastal flood protection system with geotechnical elements consisting of micropiles, soil anchors, steel sheet piles, and jet grout
  • Reconstruction and elevation of Wagner Park using lightweight fills to reduce the loading on the existing relieving platform
  • Flood barrier and flood wall construction consisting of hydraulic flip up gates, glass flood wall, and moveable flood barrier
  • Stormwater drainage system upgrades such as a NYCDEP Tide Gate, drainage cistern for greywater re-use, infiltration gallery, and bioretention for planting beds
  • Site electric
  • Site excavation, earthwork, watermain, and utility work
  • Construction of new park infrastructure, pathways, landscaping, site furnishings and public spaces
  • Construction within an active urban waterfront environment
