PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project consisted of installing 13 3/8” pressure grouted micro-piles adjacent to an active CSX railway with verification test and proof tests on the piles.  It also includes 9 5/8” diameter rock socketed mini caissons for bridge pier support towers, 9 5/8” diameter drilled soldier piles for support of excavation and 7 5/8” diameter rock socketed mini caissons for existing bridge pier expansion.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

The main challenge on this project is the proximity to an active CSX railroad.  Adding to the complexity was the low overhead and working beneath an overpass and adjacent to live traffic.

HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT

In order to keep the site and workers safe at all times, Posillico leveraged its experience working on busy sites and worked weekends to accommodate the schedules of the active freight line. We also brought in specialized equipment to handle the 9 5/8″ diameter rock socketed mini caissons. Diligent and detailed planning went into this project to ensure safety and schedule.
