PROJECT OVERVIEW

NYU Kimmel Pavilion will be an 830,000 sq ft state of the art patient care facility that adds to the main campus of NYU Langone. Posillico has been contracted through Turner Construction Co. to install 100+ 36″ and 14″ caissons for structural support as well as all excavation support of excavation and concrete for grade beams, core structure, elevator shafts, pressure slabs, flood/perimeter walls and finished topping slab on the ground floor.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

The site is underlain by two of the Amtrak East River Train Tunnels, as well as the combined sewer outfall to the East River. Drilling in the vicinity of these structures required a detailed analysis of existing plans and meticulous pre-planning. Additionally, variable rock conditions, old docks and cribbing below grade added to the complexity of drilling on the site. Due to site and schedule constraints, Posillico is required to work alongside multiple other trades to complete the ground floor concrete while the vertical construction is ongoing.

HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT

Utilizing the experience from past drilling, environmental, and concrete projects, meticulous pre-planning and information gathering set the project up for success. The Posillico Team maintains constant communication with the client, local agencies, and other contractors in order to solve problems before they become issues in the field.
