• Installation of two Regulator Stations
• Installation of steel piping, valves, fittings
• Pavement removal and site restoration

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The project entailed the installation of two Regulator Stations in Old Westbury and Roslyn Heights. Both Stations consisted of 24”, 12”, 10” and 16” 740 PSIG/350 PSIG rated gas mains and associated station appurtenances. Posillico also installed steel piping, valves, fittings, precast concrete vaults, and foundations. The project was part of National Grid’s effort to upgrade and improve safety of Long Island’s existing gas infrastructure.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

What made this job complex was the aggressive schedule to meet the milestones. Each station also presented challenging access conditions: the access road to one location had a very steep slope; and the other location involved installation work on the Long Island Expressway Service Road, which required Posillico to plan and set up extensive Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) controls to ensure safety of workers, vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT

Posillico solved it by having multiple welding crews to work both locations simultaneously. We prefabricated most regulator station components off site prior to starting. There was constant communication with national grid’s community relations team to ensure residents were aware of our day-to-day operations. Posillico used an in-house survey team to ensure accurate pipeline alignment on difficult terrain.
