PROJECT OVERVIEW

This job is a Joint Venture with Tully Construction and is the size of the three New York City blocks abutted by the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) tunnel to the north and the LIRR railroad car storage yard to the south. Posillico is completing 350 soldier piles, 60,000 CY of contaminated excavation, 60,000 CY of clean excavation, foundation walls, buried manholes and reinforced concrete electrical and communication duct banks. Posillico will be working alongside electrical, plumbing and track work contractors to build a new rail yard so the existing rail yard can be abandoned to make room for another phase of construction. While the yard work takes place, Posillico will be reconstructing the Carlton Avenue Bridge for the NYC DOT.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

Posillico reconstructed the Carlton Ave Bridge for NYC DOT over an active LIRR railyard, concurrent with reconstructing the new LIRR yard by supporting the excavation under large dynamic train loads all while keeping the railyard in active incredibly aggressive schedules and deadlines having to complete this work before the completion of the Barclays Center Arena.

HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT

Posillico was able to accomplish the solutions associated with this project because of our vast expertise in large civil projects and usage of our in-house drilling equipment. We also worked closely with the LIRR to ensure safety of everyone on the site.
