PROJECT OVERVIEW
The ESCR project was a challenging project aimed at creating greater protection to Manhattan in the face of rising sea levels and increasingly frequent storm events. Due to site constraints, the contractor was required to receive material deliveries and debris exports by barge. Breakwater Marine was able to provide onsite 24-7 tug service to handle transport material barges along the length of the project located along the East River of NYC. BWM also provided crane barge service to mobilize spudded barges for staging areas barge charters for offsite workshop and equipment staging.
WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX
The East River of NY has a high level of boat traffic and turbulent water making anchorage and navigation challenging.
HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT
BWM mobilized a spud barge for mooring the tug and upgraded the spud wells to handle the force of the wave action. BWM tug captains maintained communication with the USCG and Harbor patrol to alert them of any barge moves.
