PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Lewinsville Road bridge project comprised of constructing a new 464-foot long, two-span bridge with steel superstructure and concrete deck. Notable elements of the project included drilled shafts for footing, steel piles for abutments, concrete pier and abutments, mechanically stabilized wing walls (MSE walls), concrete deck and parapets, pedestrian fence and railing, and coating of the structural steel.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

Located in one of the most heavily congested areas of the Capital Beltway, the project team encountered challenges performing their duties with minimal impact on the traveling public. Such challenges included poor access to the job site and a tight work space.

HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT

This bridge is a part of a HOT (high occupancy/toll) lane for I-495. The construction of this bridge improves traffic flow for I-495 by allowing vehicles of high occupancy or toll-paying drivers to navigate through the Capital Beltway safely and quickly, especially those who live near the bridge’s location.
