PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project entailed the demolition and replacement of (3) existing vertical wastewater pumps and associated intermediate shafting and electric drives, with (4) new wastewater pumps and associated systems. The project scope also included the installation of new steel discharge piping, as well as the demolition and replacement of cone valves with associated hydraulic operators and controls. Lastly, Posillico also performed electrical and mechanical upgrades to the pump station, including to its heating and ventilating systems.
WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX
As is the case on most essential infrastructure upgrade projects, the WWTP had to remain in operation while Posillico performed the improvements to the systems. For that reason, only (2) of the (4) pumps could be replaced at a time. The aging building proved to be a challenging work environment forcing the relocation of some equipment to avoid compromising the structural integrity of the site. Hurdles tied to the electrical system also made respecting the project schedule a difficult task.
HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT
Posillico worked as required on two pumps at a time and tackled the structural integrity issues by showing flexibility and relocating equipment to a sound location. Constant communication and diligent coordination with the county ensured that the operations ran smoothly, and that the Posillico team met the project deadline.
