PROJECT OVERVIEW

The whole area surrounding the Bay Park WWTP was severely damaged during Super Storm Sandy. This project consisted of the repairs and improvements to the Bay Park WWTP Sludge Thickening Dewatering Facility. The scope of work included the complete demolition of the existent system: pumps, belt presses, conveyor system, polymer systems, controls, and piping within the existing facility. All existing systems were then replaced with new digester sludge pump systems, centrifuge dewatering equipment, polymer tanks, pumps and mixing systems, conveyor systems, odor control systems, belt and shuttle conveyors along with live bottom hoppers and controls for all the systems mentioned.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

The complexity of this project lay mainly in the planning, logistics and coordination of the work. The WWTP’s operations were kept running throughout the duration of the project and coordinating the construction, start up and commissioning of all new systems without any major interruptions to ongoing operations was quite challenging.

HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT

In order to meet those challenges successfully, the Posillico team diligently planned, wrote and executed a number of Maintenance of Plant Operations (MOPO) procedures to run legacy and new systems in parallel. This allowed to successfully complete all implementation and commissioning of the new upgraded systems, all the while keeping the older systems running and maintaining operations to serve the County’s needs.
