PROJECT OVERVIEW
The East 14th Street Ballfield improvement project was an environmental remediation project at a former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) site, where Posillico exhibited diverse construction excellence. First, the whole site was excavated to a depth of 2-feet. The site was then excavated to deeper depths to remove any impacted soils. Posillico installed drainage, backfill, synthetic turf and all other necessary furnishings to create two multisport ballfields for little league usage.
WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX
The project was in the middle of Con Edison’s 14th Street Generating Station. Due to its public location the project was under a microscope, resulting in tremendous pressure from Con Edison and the Little League to finish the project on time, despite delays caused by factors out of Posillico’s control. Delays included the discovery of numerous unknown and active utilities, which required the reconfiguration of design elements.
HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT
Rather than present issues affecting the progress of work and wait for direction from the client(s), Posillico offered time efficient solutions for consideration by the Engineer and Owner. Once issues were resolved, staff worked extended hours and weekends to complete the project close to the original completion date. Additional work crews were brought on to increase daily production rates and complete the scope according to project schedule.
