Posillico teamed with Lockwood, Kessler, and Bartlett to carry out the project design work and L.K. McLean Associates, P.C. to perform professional engineering inspection on the project. Requirements for this Design-Build project included improvements and reconstruction of approximately 1 mile of NYS Route 347 from Terry Road to Gibbs Pond Road in Smithtown, NY. Enhancing vehicular and pedestrian access along the Route 347 corridor included widening the mainline by an additional travel lane in each direction and continuing the shared use path along the south side and sidewalk along the north shoulder. Landscaping along with the design and construction of the shared use path green-stop area integrated adjacent properties creating a seamless greenway boulevard. Raised planted median barrier now divides the highway, adding to the greenway boulevard while protecting the traveling public. Sound wall installation runs parallel to Route 347 mitigating potential added vehicular noise from traveling into nearby communities. Throughout construction, all efforts were made by the design-build team to limit the impacts to the traveling public, local businesses and residential community.
