PROJECT OVERVIEW
The scope of this project was the construction of two new Pump Stations with both cast in place and precast concrete facilities and Control Buildings. The project also included 5.2 miles of gravity sewer main with 106 manholes, installed to feed waste to the two pump stations, as well as 4.4 miles of force main, installed to carry waste from the new pump stations to the existing sewer treatment plant. Additionally, 156 house connections were put in place for future tie into the sewer system.
WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX
The project had to be built around existing active utilities, to include direct buried electric feeders, uncharted drainage lines, High Pressure Gas Transmission Main in PS, overhead wires and an active Industrial Park with many businesses requiring 24hr access. The Sewer Main installation located on roads also required daily reconstruction and maintenance of asphalt roadways after each shift. Certain portions required night work and careful coordination between the night and day shifts.
HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT
Posillico performed over 400 Test Pits along the path of the project to locate any underground utilities. The team also redesigned many pipe-runs and manhole locations to avoid relocating existing utilities and to maintain required offsets between sewer and water lines. In some areas, manhole locations were moved to eliminate excess disruptions of the pipes. In other areas they were added to accommodate 90-degree crossings of gas utilities and high-pressure gas transmission, and thereby avoid excessive skewed crossing and potential undermining of the gas facilities. Many of the roads affected were reconstructed at night as the work progressed to minimize impacts on existing businesses. As always diligent coordination between day and night shifts, suppliers and municipal authorities was crucial to the success of this project.
