Riverhead to Eastport Caissons
Location:
Riverhead & Eastport, NY
Client:
PSEG
Project Dates:
March 2017 - July 2017
• (41) steel foundation caissons
• Installation of foundation for overhead transmission poles
• Risk mitigation through diligent and rigorous safety protocols
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The scope of the project required Posillico to furnish and install approximately (41) 72” diameter steel foundation caissons approximately 30-ft deep, for overhead transmission poles along CR51 Riverhead Moriches Road. These upgrades were necessary to keep pace with the growing demand for electricity on Long Island throughout Brookhaven and Southampton.
WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX
What made the job complex was the aggressive schedule to complete the project before the summer of 2017, while being mindful of the neighborhoods and limiting disturbances to the community. In addition, Posillico was required to work under and near overhead high voltage electric cables, and heavily trafficked areas, which created operational and safety challenges for the crews.
HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT
Following Posillico’s general safety standards, the crews mitigated the risks faced by implementing comprehensive procedures to ensure safe working environments near the overhead electric. To ensure that the work stayed on schedule, Posillico worked at multiple locations simultaneously, with extended shifts and weekends. All these measures allowed Posillico to complete the project in just a few months, safely, on time and on budget.
