PROJECT OVERVIEW

This project included the removal of the existing bridge superstructure and rehabilitating the substructure while detouring the existing traffic during re-construction. The project also involved performing a full depth reconstruction of the asphalt approaches and replacing the approach guardrail.

WHAT MADE THIS JOB COMPLEX

Given that the roadway was closed during construction, the project needed to be performed under a very tight schedule to reduce the impact on the neighborhood. Besides this, some of the substructure work had to be carried out with the installation of cofferdams which was extremely challenging given the proximity of the bridge to the Lake Jackson Dam and the constantly changing water levels.

In addition to the above, a major failure in the existing bridge abutment wall was discovered and additional work needed to be performed to demolish and re-build the failed section. Martins Construction crews worked tirelessly to carry out these repairs and ensure that the project schedule was not impacted.

HOW POSILLICO SOLVED IT

The project, despite being one of the more common types performed by Martins Construction Corp., came with its own set of challenges. Being performed amid the busy construction season, care had to be taken to ensure that all critical materials were delivered on time and there were no mistakes in fabrication. It is through these types of projects that the Martins Construction Corp. team has gained the opportunities to work even more closely with vendors and strengthen the business bonds which have served as the backbone of the company’s success.
